From Last Exile

Alex Row (or Rowe) (Αλεξ Ρω) (アレックス・ロウ ,Arekkusu Rō?) - At twenty-eight years old, Alex Rowe is the enigmatic captain of the infamous battleship Silvana. He is given the responsibility of protecting Alvis Hamilton from the Guild. He has an outwardly cold façade that seems unemotional, and harsh. He is a graduate of the Anatoray Officer's Academy, but he is loosely affiliated with Anatoray. Because he has his own agenda, he carries out the orders of the Anatoray Emperor, but eventually breaks all ties with Anatoray and Disith because of events not directly approached in the series. Due to this and the Silvana not being in the service of either nation, his ship's actions are directly his orders.

Alex displays astounding marksmanship several times during the series, most iconic is his first appearance before Claus and Lavie, where he flawlessly shot a Guild Starfish pilot directly in the head, killing him instantly. He is also a master strategist in many contexts, both inside and outside of warfare.

Alex Row's seiyū in the original Japanese anime is Toshiyuki Morikawa, and he is voiced by Crispin Freeman in the English adaptation.

[edit] Character Outline

Spoiler Warning! The following text contains spoilers that reveal the outcome of the series. Please do not read further if you wish the ending to remain secret.

[edit] Background

In general, his past is marked by tragedy and it is also one that intersects with both Claus Valca and Lavie Head. Alex was the only one of four people to return from the failed delivery of a peace treaty through the Grand Stream; two of the dead Vanship pilots were George Head and Hamilcar Valca, while the third was his own fiancée, Euris. Alex was the one who delivered the news of the deaf of George and Hamilcar to their families, leaving his own Vanship there.

While entering the Grand Stream to find Exile and attempting to defeat Delphine, the Guild took him away along with Al and Claus. There Delphine uses her favorite flowers as a means to inject truth serum into his body to reveal his secrets. He unfortunately revealed two out of four verses of the poem, but couldn't reveal the fourth because he intentionally didn't read it and have Sophia kept the fourth verse safe in her hands. He meets his end after slowly strangling Maestro Delphine's neck to death with one free hand so she can feel part of the pain he felt, when Sophia ordered Silvana to fire upon Delphine's ship. At the same moment the cannons fired, the audio sensor officer Wina, heard Alex say "Euris..." aboard Delphine's ship. Unfortunately the shells already been fired. The Silvana destroys Delphine's battleship, killing Alex as well. His final words were "To the sky".

[edit] Personality

Alex lives only to take his revenge on Delphine, and is emotionally distant from everyone, including his first officer. He's usually calm under the most dire situations, however his anger easily comes forth when Maestro Delphine is near. He nearly risked killing people to open fire on Delphine's ship.
